Sri Guru Singh Sabha, known to all as Southall Gurdwara, is the largest Gurdwara outside India. The Singh Sabha was started in the 1950s by Sikhs who came from Malaysia and Singapore, and the present building was opened in 2003. Around 15,000 people visit each week and some 20,000 meals are served from its langar. Its round darbar holds about 3,000 people under a high ceiling, designed so that kirtan carries evenly to everyone, and a stained-glass window glows behind the Guru’s throne. Portraits along its halls tell the Sikh story to the many visitors.
Diwan and langar times can change, so please check with the Gurdwara before you travel. Spotted something out of date? Write to [email protected].
