Sikhs in Australia

How Sikhs arrived

Sikhs came to Australia in the late 1800s as hawkers, cameleers and farm workers. The first Gurdwara was opened in Woolgoolga, New South Wales, in 1968.

The 2021 census counted about 210,000 Sikhs, one of Australia’s fastest-growing communities.
