Gurdwara Nanak Shahi stands on the campus of the University of Dhaka and is the largest and best known of Bangladesh’s handful of Gurdwaras. It honours Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s visit to Dhaka in the early 1500s and is said to have been built around 1830. The domed shrine was restored in 1988–89, when a parkarma verandah was added on all four sides. The sangat gathers on Friday afternoons, when visitors are welcome to join the prayers, and a Sikh research centre stands beside it. Buses to Shahbag and Dhaka University stop close by.
Diwan and langar times can change, so please check with the Gurdwara before you travel. Spotted something out of date? Write to [email protected]. Address from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, Open Database Licence).
